The Parent Invitation process is a simple way to get parents to add their contact information to CP and link it to their student. To use it, you must know at least one of the emails belonging to a student's parents. If you know the first name of the parent, that is even better.
There are two ways you can use the Parent Invitation process, from a student profile page, or via an import.
Invite via student profile page
To invite a parent via the student profile page, the student in question must already be entered in the system, and have no current parent contacts listed. The steps are as follows:
- Go to the students profile page by searching for them, or by clicking their name in the classroom or grade list.
- Enter the parent's email address and name in the provided fields (see below for what this looks like). NOTE: You must be a Site Admin to see these fields, unless your school allows parents to invite other parents.
- Click the Send Invitation button

Invite via Import
Instead of manually going to each of the student's profile pages, you can run an import and invite parents in bulk. To do so, you will use the Import Students With Email Invitation to Parents Import. This is used to both place students into homerooms, and simultaneously send parents an invitation. You can find out more information about the import here.
What do invited parents experience
When a parent is invited to add their contact information to the system, the following will happen:
- They will receive an email noting who invited them, that their student doesn't currently have an parent contact information associated with them, and a button to begin the process to add their own information (see below for an example).
- When they click on the button, they will be provided a form to complete their contact information, sharing settings, whether the student lives with them, etc.
- Once they successfully complete that form, they will be asked if they want to add another parent, or register as a user (i.e. set their password).
- After that, they can login to view their student's information and their own, and make further edits.
