How can I configure ClassroomParent to sync my school's Google Sites calendar into the school events?

ClassroomParent allows you to configure it to sync calendar events based on a ICAL feed. If your school uses Google Sites, you can generate the ICAL feed url following these instructions

Once you have the link, you can update your ClassroomParent settings to begin to sync upcoming events in your Google Sites calendar to School events in CP.

  1. Click on Admin/Settings
  2. In the General School Information area, click on the "Empty" text next to the School/District ICAL Feed URL:
  3. Paste in the ICAL Feed URL you generated from the instructions above.
  4. Click to save

Once saved, the system will automatically sync all future events. Nightly, the system will check for any updates (additions, changes, and removed events).

IMPORTANT: If you are using a Google calendar, either that calendar must be public, or you must use the secret ICal url. Here are the steps to do either:

Make your calendar public:

In the Google account that owns this calendar, go to:

Google Calendar → Settings → Settings for my calendars → [calendar] → Access permissions for events

Make sure:

☑ Make available to public is checked.

Then scroll farther down to:

Integrate calendar → Public address in iCal format

Don't construct the URL yourself. Copy the URL shown there and and paste that into your settings.

Create/get the Secret iCal address

  1. On a computer, open Google Calendar: Open Google Calendar
  2. Sign in as the Google account that owns or manages the calendar.
  3. On the left, find My calendars.
  4. Find the calendar you want to feed into ClassroomParent.
  5. Hover over the calendar name and click the (three dots).
  6. Select Settings and sharing.
  7. On the settings page, scroll down to Integrate calendar.
  8. You should see several items, typically including:
    • Calendar ID
    • Public URL to this calendar
    • Public address in iCal format
    • Secret address in iCal format
  9. Under Secret address in iCal format, click the copy button.

The result will look something like this:
